About Michael
Michael grew up in the Spokane Valley and graduated from University High School before heading off to Montana State University. Today, he lives in northeast Spokane with his wife, Vina, and four-year-old son, while eagerly waiting to welcome their second child later this year.
First elected to the Spokane City Council in 2019, Michael has earned a reputation as strong voice for open and accessible government. Cathcart recognizes that every tax dollar matters and the people deserve to see where their money goes and what results it delivers.
Now running for County Auditor, Michael brings strong leadership and a drive to supercharge the public trust. He’s committed to safeguarding your vote, making government information easier to find and understand and finding new ways to keep the public informed. Government works best in sunlight with an informed and engaged public.
Michael’s passion for voting and civic involvement started young. Every Election Day, his dad would pull him out of class to go vote together at the polling place, talking through all of the candidates and measures on the ballot. This meaningful tradition imparted an important lesson in civic responsibility that has stuck with him. As Auditor, Michael plans find opportunities to visit our schools and meet with students to try and inspire a similar sense of civic responsibility.
